MEETING AGENDA FOR NOVEMBER 2011

Thomas Shields and Robert Luckritz

Thomas Shields, the Interim Community Outreach and Corporate Liaison and Robert Luckritz, the Operations coordinator for the Jersey City Medical Center EMS Department will give a presentation on their organization and answer any questions and concerns the neighborhood may have.

Open Discussions

We invite all our neighbors to join us at an informal discussion. As your neighborhood association, we want to hear your input regarding our quality of life here in Van Vorst. Do you have an idea that will make your neighborhood safer or better? Do you want to talk about activities and issues concerning the Van Vorst Park? Here’s your chance to get more involved in your community!!!

Zoning Application Follow Up

Thank you to all the concerned neighbors who waited over 4 hours this past Thursday night at City Hall to hear Bubby’s Burrito’s presentation to the Zoning Board of Adjustment. It was a long evening since the case was scheduled near the end of the agenda, but here is a brief recap.

The Architect, Jose Izquiredo, and the lawyer, Elliot Skolnick, Esq described the design and their desire to put a restaurant where the retail store “Bone” is presently located. The application was requesting a D variance from the Zoning Board for the change of use.

After their presentation, the public had the chance to voice their opinion. It was soon evident to the Board members that no attempt was made by the applicant to contact the neighborhood even though they were asked to previously by members of the City Council and the Planning Office as is typically done for similar projects. The applicant was given the opportunity to table the vote to work with the concerns of community and then return with a more acceptable plan. They said no and the public comment continued. There were no comments speaking in favor of the application, however the negative concerns were numerous and legitimate. The Board unanimously denied the application as the applicant failed to meet the positive criteria required for a variance to be granted.

If you want to hear more about the details please come to our next meeting or feel free to review the transcripts which are available to the public via the City Planning Office.

That being said, we do welcome change and development to our neighborhood, but we want to make sure new development begins with a dialog and is constructed considering the interest of the neighborhood as a whole.

Next Fall – a play by Geoffrey Nauffts, directed by George Seylaz

November 11-20, 2011

Geoffrey Nauffts’ NEXT FALL takes a witty and provocative look at faith, commitment and unconditional love. While the play’s central story focuses on the five-year relationship between

Adam and Luke, NEXT FALL goes beyond a typical love story. This timely and compelling new

American play forces us all to examine what it means to “believe” and what it might cost us not to.
