Skeeter is a journalist who decides to write a book from the point of view of the maids, exposing the racism they are faced with as they work for white families. MEETING NEWS
The VVPA will not be meeting this July.  We will be hard at work though planning for our upcoming  meetings and events!
We would still love to hear from you.  Do you have any issues or concerns that you feel need to be addressed at a future meeting? Our goal is to involve you–our neighbors– as much as possible. Who do you want to speak to? What concerns do you have regarding the park or your block or Jersey City as a whole?  Our park and our neighborhood, whether you are in Ward E or Ward F is important to us.  We want to keep it safe, secure and a place you want to live.  We are here to help you. Email us at vvpanews@gmail.com

IMPORTANT NEWS ABOUT REVAL
Jersey City officials are warning residents to watch out for phony reval inspectors, after they received reports that men claiming to be inspectors for the citywide revaluation are gaining access to residents’ homes.  Workers for Realty Appraisal Co. of West New York  carry two forms of identification, one from Realty Appraisal and the other a letter from the city, officials stressed today.  City spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill confirmed that the city has received reports of residents who say men posing as reval inspectors gained access to their homes and took interior photographs.  Proper inspectors do not take interior photos, the city said today.
If residents are not sure a person requesting to enter their home is a legitimate inspector, they should get the inspector’s name and ask them to wait outside while they call the city’s Reval Hotline at (210) 547-4538, available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., to confirm their identity.  If you believe an imposter inspector is at your home, call 911.
Residents are able to schedule an appointment with the reval company by calling Realty Appraisal at (201) 946-6984.  Anyone who believes they have been targeted by an imposter reval inspector should call the Jersey City Police Department at (201) 547-5477 and speak to an officer or detective.

LOOKING FOR A FEW GOOD PEOPLE!
We are also actively looking for new Board members–it requires only a committment to making your neighborhood the best place to live.  Attend 3 meetings a year and you are eligible. It’s that simple.  Board members meet after our Tuesday meetings to come up with ideas for the next month.  And thats it. Make a difference, make new friends, make your mark. Join us.

TANGO Fundraiser Update!

20 Jun 2012, Posted by admin in Events

Are you joining us? To Tango or Not to Tango that is the question.
Our Tango2012 is scheduled for this Saturday June 30th.   Unfortunately if we do not have 50 reservations before Thursday the answer may be: Not To Tango.

Fundraisers are an important part of a non-profit organization such as the VVPA.  The money we raise helps us to continue making strangers into neighbors by offering family events, a meeting place for neighbors to speak with city officials and local businesses one on one and to make our park a safer place to be at night with Films in Van Vorst. But family events, our rental space and free films cost us money.  So therefore we fundraise. But fundraising costs too…so we’d rather not waste what little we have– If you can’t make it due to previous commitments we understand.

Won’t you help us continue helping you?

This Saturday for $40/person we were hoping to teach you to tango, feed you amazing food from Me Casa, Made with Love & Tommy 2 Scoops, and give you tasty Argentinian wines and Fizzy Lizzy’s to quench your thirst. Food Dancing & Drinks for $40. We think it’s a great deal.

Our website is http://www.tangovvpa.wordpress .com.  There you can buy a ticket and learn more about our event. Or come and see HUGO in the park on Wednesday after sunset….we will be there with tickets in hand. Or if you wish to pay us on Saturday–reserve a spot at vvpanews@gmail.com. That’s all– we just need to know.

Thanks for your time and consideration.
