MEETING AGENDA:

  • Bob Hurley-Basketball Coach at St. Anthony’s High School–

The VVPA will be honored by one of Jersey City’s most prominent citizens when Coach Bob Hurley joins us this month for a reflection on his storied career at Saint Anthony’s. The Coach is a lifelong Jersey City resident, one of only ten high school basketball coaches to win 1000 games and only the third high school coach to be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. And he is a down to earth nice guy.

The Downtown Harvest group is preparing for their upcoming season.  Judy will explain what Community Supported Agriculture is, discuss the benefits and answer any questions.

We will also have an update on the latest developments regarding the recent complaint filed by Bright & Varick Urban Renewal against the city.

And….the VVPA will be giving out free daffodil bulbs courtesy of Friends of Van Vorst Park .  Plant them in the next week or so and you will have flowers if and when spring arrives!!

Ongoing survey:
We are still asking if you ride the PATH during the weekend to take our “unofficial” PATH survey at path.vvpa.org.  PA authorities have asked for our data.  It’s important for us to continue to monitor the situation with these results.  Mayor Fulop mentioned at the DCNA meeting this past Monday that he is “talks” with the PA. If the PA fails to work with the City, we hope to use our statistics to pressure for changes.  SO PLEASE TAKE THE SURVEY AND TELL YOUR FRIENDS!

News from our neighbors:

And…the ongoing debate between the City and the BOE has alot of Van Vorst parents concerned.  An article in the JCI explains the facts.  http://www.jerseycityindependent.com/2014/03/12/jersey-city-public-schools-pre-k-classroom-shortage-concerns/
