Donna DeQuina

Donna is part of an organization called No Eminent Domain-McGinley Square East. It’s imperative to hear about her recent battle with City Government and their attempts to take 52 properties via Eminent Domain. It can happen to us here Downtown. She needs our support, so please come and listen

Elizabeth Ruebman

Elizabeth works with NYNJBaykeeper and has been fighting the DEP recently who are actively trying to “trade urban public access for business.” This is our waterfront access….which may be no more . Check out www.nynjbaykeeper.com for more information. She will give us an update on Jersey City’s fight to keep our Waterfront Access for it’s citizens.

Ed Toloza

Ed is Jersey City’s Accessor. He will answer questions regarding the upcoming revaluation.

Steve came to our meeting last month and gave us an in depth talk regarding Realty Appraisal Company’s upcoming city wide appraisal for our new property tax assessment. We will have notes available at our next meeting if you missed him–giving you the highlights of his very informative discussion with our neighbors.

Congrats to Tom Parisi–a friend and supporter of the Van Vorst Park

Association as he opens his latest restaurant, The Brightside Tavern at 144 Bright Street this August. Best of luck to him and make sure to check out the great menu and drinks at his lovely new space!! Welcome to our Neighborhood!

UPCOMING EVENTS

Saturdays: Van Vorst Farmers Market 9am3pm Get local produce baked goods and more! The Farmers Markets will be in the Park until November this year!!

Wednesdays: Groove on Grove. Live music on the Grove Street Path Plaza every Wednesday through the summer.

Fridays: Creative Grove at the Grove Street Path Plaza. Music, Art, food, and festivities every Friday.

Wednesday August 17th FILMS IN VAN VORST presents TOY STORY 3 directed by Lee Unkrich. Free film on the east end of Van Vorst Park….Bring a chair, Bring a friend. Tell your neighbors with children–this will be a fun night!

We are working on our September and October meeting speakers….

Steve Fulop is slated to join us in October . We love having Steve answer our questions and concerns. We are also working on getting as many candidates for the city council at large elections this November to meet with us…so keep looking for updates!
