Police Report

Representatives of the East District will give their monthly report

Josh Parkhurst, President of the Jersey City Landmarks Conservancy — Josh will discuss plans for this year’s Historic Preservation Month events.

Jill Edelman, Power House Arts District, will speak to the VVPA about concerns over planned development for the neighboring Power House Arts District.


Sat. April 21 – Earth Day – 3rd Annual WALK for Liberty State Park in collaboration with the Hudson County Improvement Authority’s 5K RUN 10 AM (registration will be earlier). The WALK proceeds go to FOLSP and the 5K RACE proceeds go to the Hudson County Green Fund. Registration fee is $17 before and $20 on the day. Liberty State Park

Sat. April 21 – Earth Day — Earth Day Festival for people of all ages, has many exhibits, environmental activities, and entertainment from 11 am to 4 pm.

Saturday May 5 – Van Vorst Park Spring Planting Event and Dog Run Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Friends of Van Vorst and the JC Parks Coalition with the support of Goldman-Sachs invite all to attend. Free food and music. Neighbors are also invited to bring their own favorite foods and snacks. Planting the new gardens around the new dog run. Ribbon cutting ceremony for the dog run at noon. Mayor Healy and other City officials will participate. Introducing the new dog run committee leading community oversight of the dog run. 9 AM to 3 PM

Sunday May 6 — 2nd Annual Awards Luncheon at Liberty House Restaurant. Noon to 3 pm. $50 per person for this fundraising event. The deserving honorees include Assemblyman Louis Manzo, a leader against the commercial water park plan and in the cause to save LSP’s views and Public Plaza from the hill and walls 9/11 Memorial; LSP’s longtime wildlife photographer Marvin Silber; Gladys Vasques, dedicated pioneer of FOLSP’s garden beautification volunteering; and LSP’s Liberty Yacht Club Commodore Jim O’Connor, who led major marina clean up efforts, established an osprey nest, and supporter of a community sailing program.
